Sarah Case is a make-up and hair artist based in Devon. After a personal recommendation from another customer, Sarah approached Vibrant Pulse about designing some leaflets and revamping the companies image.
As a result of the request, we have started a journey we are undertaking with Sarah Case with the design of the logo. Sarah will be using and incorporating this into some advertising material.

The logo itself has gone down well and has been complimented by a range of contacts of Sarah both within the industry and customers.

The logo itself has been designed to incorporate the original brief, a simple yet bold logo.

To achieve her design, we have researched into her industry to come up with the result you see.

This is the beginning of a long journey we are heading on with Sarah with an end goal set by Sarah in mind. We are entering the second stage of this starting next week.

The previous website was built to encourage and grow the junior sector for which the result was achieved ready for the new aims for a new website.

The new website has been designed to help build up a new area of the business whilst maintaining a professional feel to the company.

Powered by the VP CMS (Content Management System), the new website is easier to maintain and keep up-to-date and is just another example of how flexible the CMS is with any website design. The CMS has also had to integrate with third person software already used by Mountlands for student records.

We will be continuing our work with Mountlands and will be following the impact that the new site is having for the language school as they continue to develop and grow the business.

Thank you for using Vibrant Pulse website designers again.

This blog post is a little bit special and is not actually written by us at Vibrant Pulse. Instead of banging on about how Facebook, Twitter, SEO etc can help you, we thought we would start to invite others, who benefit from them to write about it in the form of a guest blog. Today, we would like to introduce Moose Allain from ‘The World Of Moose’ to the spotlight as we asked him:

“How do you use Twitter and how has it helped your business?”

I started on twitter as an experiment, determined to let it grow without really promoting it. I didn’t really understand what it was, I don’t think you can understand it until you participate, particularly because everyone shapes their own twitter. I tried to be original and entertaining right from the start and occasionally posted my pictures. My follower numbers began increasing when one or two people with good followings began to recommend me. Before long people were asking me if they could buy the work I was putting on line. I have received a couple of commissions via Twitter and I have also sold work to followers who have come to various art fairs, etc. up and down the country which I have tweeted about. I sell consistently through my website. Although I haven’t looked at how much of this comes through twitter.

I think it’s very important to not be constantly selling. I give a lot of original material to my ‘audience’ and they don’t mind me plugging my work occasionally, as far as I can see. If they do, they don’t tell me, or they just unfollow! Your audience is self-regulating in that sense, which is definitely one of the things which makes twitter a powerful marketing tool. (I don’t want to slip into marketing speak because I’m not qualified and also because I think there is a very human, social aspect to twitter of which marketing is only a tiny part. In a sense we are all ‘marketing’ ourselves all the time, but that’s a pretty horrible way to describe the subtle complexity of human relationships!). Nevertheless, it’s a sort of meritocracy where you can be rewarded with more followers for good tweeting – as far as I can see this relationship works well for creative people with something that people want to buy.

There is a wonderful mutuality to twitter, you support the people you like by retweeting their ‘plugs’ and they do the same to you. Gradually you build a loyal following who you already know like your work and so are tolerant if not welcoming of occasional plugs. I think people follow me first and foremost because they enjoy the originality and variety of my tweets which are mainly verbal although I post my drawings as well. You get immediate feedback which is gratifying but also helpful. It has been an incredibly useful vehicle for trying out ideas and trialling products. For example we launched a range of mugs last year. I posted some of the early designs and got some great feedback, and also started to build some anticipation from people who wanted to buy them. When we finally went into production we sold out of our first batch pretty quickly just through twitter.

I think twitter has made a substantial difference to the way I work. Words, the enjoyment of language, have always been an important part of my work, both as an artist and in my previous career in architecture. As I draw I find words tumbling around in my head and twitter has been a fantastic vehicle for releasing/publishing these thoughts which would otherwise have fizzled off into nothing. Which is fine, because twitter is generally about amusing ephemera rather than profound epithets, but if you value what you write and archive it, as I do, you can transform it into something else. So for me it has increasingly become a creative medium as well as a social networking tool.

I know that my popularity is continuing to grow on twitter, but I think it’s because I have a genuine, individual and original voice. It is now starting to lead to all sorts of unforeseen opportunities and collaborations, which are changing the nature of how I describe what I do as an artist: film, performance, a lecture, illustration work, writing… it’s actually a bit overwhelming, but very exciting.

–

Thank you Moose.

healthy lifestyle and take part in bootcamp and other physical activities. In addition to being coached by Royal Marine personal training

instructors, residents will take part in other physical pursuits such as Zumba and Yoga. Residents will learn about healthy nutrition,

and will follow a personal development plan aimed at building confidence.

The wellness weeks provide an opportunity for residents to immerse themselves in exercise and health related activities.

The aim is to bring about and support long term changing attitudes so that people continue to keep fit and eat healthily

when they return home. An after care service is also provided.

The website we have created has the Vibrant Pulse content management system, and has been designed with search engine optimisation

in mind. There is a blog section that can be updated regularly which will help the website increase its website rankings.

The website has been freshly designed with specific call to actions in mind. We aim to help Zenergy’s current and future customers

find the information they want quickly and easily so they can navigate the site efficiently with what is stage 1 of the build.

We’d like to wish the new business good luck in the future and we will be continuing our work for them sending out

monthly analysis reports for how the website is performing.

According to Ofcom, 34% of people in the UK use their mobile to access the internet. This figure is likely to rise and in addition, people are also using portable handheld tablets to browse the Web.

Mobile devices come in all shapes and sizes and it is important that internet users can read the information on the screen clearly, without access to a computer. People often want to find a phone number quickly, or in the case of Stuart Line Cruises, want to read the current timetable.

We have designed a simplified version of the full website specially for the mobile, and have had favourable feedback for the site from the statistical data we have collected so far. Being an easy site to update, the content is managed from the current VP CMS system they have running on the site.

According to Webwise at the BBC, the word “blog” is derived from “Web log” and has its origins as an online diary.

There are many people who have personal blogs on the internet and write about what’s happening to them on a daily basis.
Others set up blogs on particular topics, and passionately collate information relating to their chosen subjects,
relaying this to their readers regularly. Blogs are essentially written commentaries and lend themselves to
creativity and imagination as well as being a way to pass on news and facts.

In order to produce a regular blog, it is helpful if you like writing and communicating. Well written blogs,
containing interesting pieces of information, will be appreciated by readers, and in turn, picked up by search engines resulting
in better placements which means better traffic. It is important to keep in mind that a good blog takes time to write and blogging
requires a longterm commitment to be successful.

In the world of business, blogs tend to be used to circulate information rapidly and efficiently to customers and staff.
They offer a number of advantages:

they are easily updated so information can be communicated on a regular basis

they make it easy to alert your customers to new products or services

they are interactive, enabling your customers to comment

they enable you to share knowledge or expertise

they can be an affordable way of communicating succinctly.Does your website have a blogging facility? If you haven’t, and would like to know more about including one, please contact us for
further advice on 01395 548133.

We have been running the Vibrant Pulse Content Management System for a while now and the feedback we have been having from our customers has been really good. Getting ready for a version 2 of the CMS (all clients will be updated automatically) for later this year, we want to give our creation a quirky name and want to invite YOU, our customers, fans and followers a chance to name it.

A name should reflect the easy to use nature of the CMS that allows for the bespoke, fresh designs that we can customise for EACH of our clients. The name should reflect the powerful nature of the huge range of features our CMS offers, from the search engine friendliness and the result it can have on your website in the search engines through to the anti-spam contact form system.

The winning name will be turned into a logo and will be used as the new name of the VPCMS and help give it a character that we believe it deserves.

Comment below with your suggestions, email us, call us, comment on our Facebook or Twitter pages and we will post up a blog article in the future.

We look forward to hearing from you.

One area of a good search engine optimisation campaign for a web designer is the use of a good URL. This includes, if possible, a great domain name and the bits that follows. Lets give you an example:

http://www.domainname.com/the-bit-that-follows.html

*OK, I am not using technical terms here to try and make this post easy to read.

There are 2 types of URL, a static URL or a dynamic URL.

We have been asked by a few clients about dynamic URL’s not performing as well, if at all in Google. I think it is best to start with explaining what they are.

Static URL’s

http://www.domainname.com/static-page.html

A static URL is ideal for a small, hard coded website with only a few pages since every page has to be manually created. This can be time consuming and is why a static site of 6 pages could cost the same as a dynamic site with more pages. The static website will be made up of separate files that make each page of the website. The file for the example would be called ‘static-page.html’.

Dynamic URL’s

http://www.domainname.com/blog?=r55&lg=en

A dynamic URL is generally a URL that is generated automatically by the website. Usually these are database driven sites like eCommerce sites, forums and blogs. Within the URL you may see strange numbers and characters, a good give away to a dynamically generated URL is if you see characters like ‘? = &’, look at the top of this blog post and you will see a real life one!

So what type of URL has the advantage in Google?

The biggest search engine is Google and Google state that in terms of listings web pages in the index, a static or dynamic URL makes no difference. You may find a static URL has a better click through rate than a bad dynamic URL however. For this reason, this is why you should try and rewrite your dynamic URL’s to resemble, as much as possible, a static URL. For a rough example:

http://www.domainname.com/blog?=r55&lg=en

Should be

http://www.domainname.com/blog?=post title+post category

There is lots more to be said about URL’s which will have to wait for another day. It is however safe to say that there is no difference between a static URL and a well written, well generated dynamic URL for Search Engine Optimisation in Google.

Got questions? Fire them off to our Devon web design team as a comment.

After an initial conversation, we arranged a meeting to discuss the requirements for the TLC website design. The choices were 1 of 2, work with the existing Joomla site OR build a new website. TLC decided to follow our advice and work with a new website to work from the VP CMS (Vibrant Pulse Content Management System).

The new website had to have a custom built property management system incorporated into the website that would allow for all the properties to be added to the website and show them/hide them as they became available for rent. We built this to work with Google Maps to allow visitors to the website to see exactly what properties were available AND in what area easily and quickly.

The new website was redesigned with the search engines and users in mind. As a result, the site is fast to load and should work well in the search engine listings, we will be working with TLC to monitor performance and help them build up the social presence they have currently for which the website is just stage 1 of the journey we have laid out with them. Stage 2 will involve more of the promotion of the site with the search engines and social networks.
